Therapy sessions are held for 50 minutes. The first one to three sessions involve discussing your reasons for attending therapy, your background, and your goals for therapy. During this time, clients initially complete relevant psychological assessments to give an indication of how they are going in terms of mood and any other symptoms.
Assessments are repeated in later sessions to track clients’ progress. Sessions also involve clients working to develop skills that support them to achieve their goals for therapy.
Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly in the first instance, and as symptoms start to improve, may be spaced out until the client is comfortable with attending sessions to check in occasionally, as needed, or with ceasing therapy. Each client’s needs and path during therapy is different so your psychologist will discuss with you what the best fit is for you.
